RV
Pandaw
Upper Deck Double Use
$240 per pax
The Pandaw Concept, as it became known,
offered a new travel experience quite unlike
other forms of travel: combining an expedition
atmosphere with an elegant base afloat. But what
made the Pandaw style unique was the ability of
these shallow draft ships to penetrate and
explore remote areas of the country and enable
real cultural exchange between the traveler and
the inhabitants of the great river valleys of
Myanmar.
A journey on Burma's Irrawaddy River is one of
life's great travel experiences. No vessel could
be more appropriate for this than a ship of the
Pandaw fleet.

Forbidden Islands

take their cameras to one of Earth?s last
frontiers: the Mergui archipelago of Myanmar,
the country once known as Burma. The largely
uncharted chain of more than 800 islands,
cradled by pristine reefs and turquoise waters,
has recently been declared off-limits to
outsiders by the country?s government . . .
Gypsy
Secret: Children of sea see clearly underwater
For
hundreds of years, small nomadic tribes called

the ocean floor.

Myanmar visa
I'm travelling in China at the moment and will
be heading to Myanmar after Tibet. Does anyone
know if I can get a visa for Myanmar when I
arrive off a flight/overland or do I need to
arrange it advance? Does anyone know where in
China I can arrange it?
Cheers,
Lynne

1.
You need the visa before. I assume you can get
it at the Myanmar embassy in Beijing.
If you want to enter overland from China, which
is possible at Ruili, you can get the visa
together with the necessary permits also in
Kunming.
There is a lot of information about this
available here, just search for Ruili and look
through the posts.

I arrived to Myanmar on the 22 June.
We got the visa on arrival through a local
travel agency in Yangon (Magado Travels).
http://www.myanmarvisa.com/visaprocedure.htm
We sent them copy of our passport and photos and
also we filled a form that they have on their
internet page and everything worked perfectly
ok.
They were waiting for us at the immigration queu
with an immigration officer who stamped the visa
in our passport. After that we paid their fees.
These people can also help you to book
accommodation in Yangon and other cities in the
country and also with train and plane tickets.

Others have confirmed what #2 says, so that's
possible.
Other options depend on how you're getting to
Myanmar from Tibet. I can report that from
Nepal, it's cheaper to fly into Bangkok and then
to Yangon than it is trying to get there via
India (Biman no longer flies Dhaka-Yangon).
If coming back to Kunming, you can get your visa
at the Myanmar consulate (in the Camellia Hotel,
I believe). You should be able to fly in,
possibly to Mandalay, from Kunming, or cross
overland in SW Yunnan via Muse/Lashio, though
this ends up costing as much or more than a
flight once you cough up the "guide and
transport" fees you're obliged to pay from the
border to Lashio.
